26-year-old Napoli striker Edinson Cavani is rumoured to be Chelsea’s top target for the summer, who now have reappointed Mourinho at Stamford Bridge after a six-year gap, while Manchester City are also keen on Serie A’s top scorer.

At this stage, though, Cavani is keeping his options open, and in his pre-Confederations Cup stint for Uruguay in Brazil, he hinted he is open to a move to either Chelsea or Manchester City.

Cavani was full of praise for the Chelsea manager, stating: “The Special One? It would be a pleasure to be managed by someone like him.”

Cavani is rated among the top strikers in Europe, having smashed in 29 goals for Napoli last season and despite being under contract at Napoli until 2017, he openly suggested he would enjoy linking up with Jose Mourinho in London, while he also said he wouldn’t mind teaming up with Chilean tactician Manuel Pellegrini, who by all accounts has a verbal agreement in place to become City’s manager next season.

He added: “Chelsea? I don’t know if they’ve made an offer for me but I know that working for a coach like Pellegrini or Mourinho would be a great pleasure It would certainly be a great honour to join one of the illustrious teams that are looking at me because I dreamed about doing that as a child. At the moment, though, I am only focused on Uruguay.”

Meanwhile, Cavani was unsure about what impact Rafael Benitez, the former Chelsea boss, will have on determining his future at the club.

“I don’t know if Benitez’s arrival could affect my future,” Cavani added. “Today I have a contract with Napoli but, at the same time, I’m talking to other teams.

“Things are bit uncertain at the moment. The only certain thing is that I belong to Napoli and I’m concentrating on Uruguay because we have a tough tournament like the Confederations Cup. After these engagements I will think about my future.”
