Fernando Torres vows to stay at Chelsea till 2016

Chelsea v FC Steaua Bucuresti - UEFA Europa League Round of 16

Fernando Torres has said that he will stay with the Blues at least until 2016. The Spaniard insists that will see out his contract at Stamford Bridge. Torres was signed from Liverpool for a hefty fee of £50 million.

After a series of unsatisfactory performances, Torres was linked with a move back to his former club Atletico Madrid. However, the 29-year-old is determined to prove his worth in England and has dismissed any rumours linking him with a move away from the London club.

He said: “I’ve never hidden that I am grateful because Atletico gave me many things, but the reality is I am in another team and I have three more years on my contract.

“I have a lot of things to give to Chelsea and many things to prove to myself before returning home.

“Right now, returning to Atletico is not a reality.”

Torres lost his place in the Spanish national team but the striker hopes to be a part of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and has vowed to earn his place back into the squad.

“I hope to be able to return to the national team.

“The first step is to do well at my club and that will give me more options of returning.

“I want to do well in order to return. We have a lot to win and many joys to give people and many tournaments to play with this generation.

“Of course getting back in to the national team is one of my objectives.”
