What's the story?

One of the most successful managers in the world, Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly ready to quit Bayern Munich in January and join the lucrative Chinese Super League. The former Chelsea manager has come under increasing pressure at Bavaria with the 2-0 loss against Hoffenheim on Saturday further tightening the noose around his neck.

The Italian boss is in his second season at the Bundesliga giants and despite having won the League title in his first season, former player Mario Basler believes that the legendary manager has already signed a contract with the lucrative Asian League:

“I’ve heard that Ancelotti has signed a contract with a Chinese club,” Basler told Sport1.

“From what I know he will leave in the winter because that is when the season starts in China. I can’t confirm it to be 100 per cent true, but my source is reliable. Let’s put it this way, I can’t say anything negative about my source, which I trust."

In case you didn't know...

Ancelotti has been successful wherever he has managed in his legendary club career. Having won major trophies with a number of successful clubs like AC Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG, the veteran Italian was seen as the perfect man to guide the German giants to a Champions League triumph.

However, after falling to Real Madrid last season in the Champions League and having a troubled start to their Bundesliga campaign, Ancelotti looks like he is already on the way out from the Allianz Arena.

The heart of the matter

The Chinese Super League has been growing in stature over the last few years. Although the indiscriminate spending has reduced somewhat, the Asian powerhouse still has some of the top managers in the world like Marcelo Lippi (national team manager), Andre Villas-Boas and Felipe Scolari.

If the reports are indeed true and Ancelotti does move to the Chinese Super League, the profile of the league will definitely increase considerably and the game in China will certainly improve by leaps and bounds.

Author's take

Although most of the rumours in September are to be taken with a pinch of salt, former Bayern Munich star Basler is a pretty reliable source and this surprising move might just come to fruition in the January transfer window.
