French national and former Chelsea star Marcel Desailly has claimed that Wayne Rooney was never intent on leaving Manchester United and that he did it only to earn a new contract from the Old Trafford outfit.

He went on to say Rooney and his advisers did the same thing three years ago and emerged with a new contract and its all business and nothing more. The ex-Chelsea defender said, “I wasn’t really sure he wanted to make a move to Chelsea.

“I think it is more business, than a desire to move from the club.

“Three years ago he was very clever telling the club that he wants to move to Manchester City. The club have allowed him to get the biggest salary and sign a new contract.

“This time I think they have tried again – it is business, they play the game and try to earn more.

“He doesn’t really want to move. Nobody really showed, apart from Chelsea, that they want Rooney completely, truly.” said the World Cup Winner.

Rooney to set to open talks with the club for a new contract in the New Year.
