What's the story?

Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann believes the Red Devils are playing some excellent football under the guidance of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and can win the Champions League this season.

In case you didn't know...

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has injected a new lease of life into Manchester United since taking charge at the club, as the Red Devils are yet to lose a game in his tenure, having won nine and drawn one more since the caretaker boss' appointment.

They were 11 points adrift of the 'top-four' when the Norwegian were unveiled as the caretaker manager for rest of the season in December 2018, but now find themselves just two points behind Chelsea.

On the other hand, Dietmar Hamann was the part of Liverpool's famous 2004-2005 Champions League winning squad and played 191 league games during his seven years stay at the club. He announced his retirement in 2011 and is currently working as the European columnist for twentyfour7 football magazine.

The heart of the matter

Speaking with Racing Post (via Manchester Evening News), Dietmar Hamann said that Manchester United are currently buzzing under Solskjaer and are among the favorites to win Champions League this season.

He said:

"It looks absolutely wide open with no outstanding team,". "I could make a claim about probably nine or ten clubs, and Manchester United now have to be included.
"The point about the Champions League is that it’s a two-part schedule and what happens in the first part is largely irrelevant.

The former Liverpool star also believes that the Manchester-based club are playing Paris St. Germain at the right time.

"United under Solskjaer go into the knockout phase buzzing, take on PSG at the perfect time with Neymar out and they should fear no one.

What's next?

Manchester United will play Fulham later today and then will host PSG at the Old Trafford on February 13.
