What is the story?

Juventus ace Cristiano Ronaldo is facing a race against time to be fully fit against Ajax in the all-important UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie.

Bianconeri boss, Massimiliano Allegri provided the latest update about the Portuguese superstar’s fitness by insisting “It will be difficult” for him to get back in time.

In case you didn’t know….

Cristiano Ronaldo suffered a hamstring problem on his national duty last week during Portugal’s 1-1 draw against Serbia in UEFA EURO qualifiers.

The 34-year-old was substituted at the half-hour mark and his absence was felt throughout the 90th minute as Portugal failed to break down the rigid Serdefenceense.

But the Bianconeri superstar was “calm” about his injury and claimed afterwards:

"I'm not worried, because I know perfectly my body."
"It happens, it's football. Who's out there risks it. I'm calm, because I know I'm going to be back well in one or two weeks with no problem."

The heart of the matter…

In his latest press conference, the Juve boss was really clear about Ronaldo’s fitness and provided an update about the rehabilitation procedure.

"Ronaldo is working and we hope to have him for Ajax, but it will be difficult," Allegri said.
"Today's examination is much better; the leg is better. There are nine days left until Ajax and we have time to evaluate. We must be careful and evaluate.”

Although Allegri is very much hopeful about the returns of other Bianconeri superstars.

“As for Douglas Costa, he's in good condition and should be available for Ajax. Khedira has worked with the team and could to be there for Milan.” he said.
"Paulo Dybala will be evaluated to understand how he is doing with the knock on his shoulder. He will not play in Sardinia and we hope to have him back to face Ajax.”

What’s Next?

Juventus fans will be hoping that their talisman is fully fit to take on the giant-killing Eredivisie side and inspire the Bianconeri to secure another semi-final berth.

Juventus will face Cagliari next on Tuesday night to increase their 15 points lead in the summit of Serie A table while the all-important first leg of the quarter-final tie against Ajax is scheduled on 10th of April.
