Stats: Records broken after Atletico Madrid's win over Bayern Munich

Atletico Madrid
Atletico have a slender advantage against Bayern

Bayern Munich suffered defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid, after a wondergoal from Saul Niguez in the 10th minute of the game gave them a 1-0 lead to take to Germany in the second leg.

Pep Guardiola learned the hard way how tough it is to breakdown Atletico Madrid as Bayern couldn’t find a way through. He will have to reconfigure and recalculate his tactics against Simeone when they host them in the second leg.

Here are some incredible stats from last night’s game

33 – Atletico Madrid have now kept 33 clean sheets this season. They have played 52 games in total this campaign, which means they have conceded a goal in only 19 games in all competitions.

16 – Atleti’s keeper Jan Oblak has been crucial to their defensive stability this season. He has managed to stop every single one of the last 16 shots on target of which 7 were taken by Bayen last night.

5 – For the fourth time this season, Atletico Madrid have kept 5 clean sheets in row. The two most important names in that list are Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

14 – The Calderon has truly become a fortress for Diego Simeone. The atmosphere was at it’s peak last night and the manager wanted even more passion from the crowd. In 14 of the last 16 matches Atleti have played at home in the UCL they have kept a clean sheet.

0 – What’s more impressive is their defence in the last stage of the 90 minutes. After the 60th minute mark Atletico have never conceded a goal at home in a Champions League game since Diego SImeone took charge.

2 – If Pep wants to beat Atletico in the second leg he will have to ensure they score in the the first half. But even then, they're a tough nut to crack with them having conceded only twice at home under Simeone in the Champions League

8 – Guardiola has a woeful away record with Bayern in the Champions League. His team have now failed to win their last 8 Champions League away knockout matches.

3 – Guardiola doesn’t lose often but against Atletico he has lost 3 times as manager. Real Madrid are the only team he has lost more against as manager which stands at 4 games.

18 – Maybe luck is also a big factor for Guardiola and his players. Bayern have now hit the woodwork 18 times in the last three seasons in the Champions League which is the most by any in the competition.

3 – Niguez was definitely the star man last night. With that Messi-esque effort he is now the highest Spanish scorer in the competition, higher than his teammate Fernando Torres who also hit the post last night
