"Trophies more important than top-four finish" - Demba Ba

Chelsea forward Demba Ba has stressed that winning trophies should be given the priority instead of focusing on finishing in the top four places in the Premier League.

The Blues are still in the two cup competitions, namely the Europa League and the FA Cup. With their 1-0 win over Manchester United, their chances of winning FA cup have increased considerably.

Despite their good showing in the cup competitions this season and chances of laying hands on silverware seeming probable, interim manager Rafael Benitez has been under constant criticism and as a result, wants to reach the top four in order to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League campaign and end on a high.

But the January transfer signing and former Newcastle striker Demba Ba differs from the gaffer as he was quoted by Telegraph as saying, “The top four is very important, but we want a trophy, we are looking very good in two competitions, the Europa League and the FA Cup. We’re going to do everything to win them both.

“When you retire, no one probably remembers that you finished in the top four. They remember you won a trophy. It’s important for a player that you win a trophy. We always talk about trophies. That has to be the aim for the players and the clubs.”

Chelsea are currently in fourth place in the Premier League with Arsenal breathing down their neck two points adrift of the Blues.
