WWE RAW Live Results (May 6th, 2024): Multi-time World Champion forced to submit in brutal main event KOTR match

Ilja Dragunov defeats Ricochet via pinfall.

Bronson Reed and Chad Gable end in a No Contest after Sami Zayn interferes.
Lyra Valkyria defeats Dakota Kai via pinfall.
Gunther defeats Sheamus via submission.

Another half crab is synched in by Gunther, and Sheamus is scratching to get to the ropes. He gets close, but The Ring General drags him to the center of the ring and locks it in. Sheamus has no choice.

Gunther defeats Sheamus via submission.

Gunther goes to the top for a body splash, but Sheamus follows. He pulls Gunther off for an incredible Celtic Cross!! Gunther kicks out but eats another Pump Knee. The Brogue Kick connects!! Sheamus collapses and is just inches away from a cover!! Gunther kicks out!! What does Sheamus have to do??

Sheamus counters Gunther with a clothesline. He can't hit the Celtic Cross but uses that injured knee for the Pump Knee strike!! Gunther barely kicks out, and Sheamus's got some life.
Sheamus goes for the Brogue, but his knee gives out, and Gunther follows with a powerbomb. Sheamus is in agony as he kicks out, and Gunther transitions into a single-leg Boston Crab.

During the break, Gunther slammed Sheamus'knee repeatedly into the ring post. Now, the latter is just struggling to stand. Gunther has a hard time hitting a powerbomb because Sheamus' knee keeps giving out.

Ludwig Kaiser possibly injuring Sheamus if you can see through the blurs. Maybe squint at the picture and turn your head left.

Gunther eats not 10 but 17 beats. He avoids the Brogue Kick, sending Sheamus into the ropes. As Gunther distracts the ref, Ludwig Kaiser traps Sheamus' leg up in between the ropes and hits a nasty running dropkick!!

The ref throws Ludwig out, but the damage has been done!

Sheamus fights out of a headlock and counters a clothesline with an Irish Curse backbreaker. Gunther goes for another clothesline and connects, but Sheamus responds with White Noise!
Gunther kicks out and rolls to the apron, where he baits Sheamus for the 10 beats. After hanging him on the ropes, Gunther goes back in for another clothesline. Sheamus counters with a powerslam for a two-count!

We come back from the break, and Gunther is in total control. We see a close-up of the welts on Sheamus' body. You can see the outline of Gunther's individual fingers on Sheamus' back.

Gunther traps Sheamus in the ropes and hits his version of Sheamus' 10 beats...but with chops!! Sheamus stops him at two but is stunned with a clothesline. Gunther follows with a piledriver attempt on the apron. Sheamus counters with a back body drop onto the apron and follows Gunther to the floor with a flying clothesline! Can Sheamus do this!?!

After a bit of grappling, the two trade chops with Sheamus getting the better of The Ring General and following with a back suplex! These two are hammering one another with haymakers and uppercuts!

Gunther and Sheamus make their entrances and stare one another down. This could be the match of the week!!

After the match, we hear from Kofi Kingston. The former WWE Champion states that this was supposed to be the time that Xavier Woods ran it back and became a two-time KOTR winner.
A beating by Gunther left Woods on the shelf, so Kofi is here in his place to win the tournament. He'll take on Rey Mysterio on SmackDown and plans on running the table to defeat Gunther in the finals.

Lyra eventually hits Nightwing, a Cradle Shock, to pick up the win.

Lyra Valkyria defeats Dakota Kai via pinfall.

Lyra will take on Zoey Stark in the quarterfinals.

Kai escapes a DVD attempt and hits a modified Curb Stomp in between the ropes. Miraculously, Lyra kicks out.

Back from the break, Lyra manages to catch Dakota with a nasty striking combination before launching her to the floor with a wrecking ball dropkick! She follows with a crossbody off the top and hits an exquisite fisherwoman suplex!

Lyra plants Dakota with a northern lights suplex with the extended bridge! Dakota kicks out, but Lyra has definitely made her presence known.
Dakota manages to stop a dive by pulling Lyra's legs out from the corner, dropping her head on the top turnbuckle. She follows with a devastating boot as Lyra hangs off the apron. Damage CTRL might have two competitors in the quarterfinals!

After saving Becky from Damage CTRL, Lyra is in the ring taking on Dakota Kai in the opening round of the Queen of the Ring Tournament.

As things start to get heated, Damage CTRL interrupts them. Dakota Kai claims they're here to remind everyone who really runs Monday Night RAW. Liv and Becky are back-to-back, but when the group stands on the apron, Liv escapes and leaves Becky alone!!

Lyra Valkyria rushes the ring to save her mentor and former rival, sending Damage CTRL scurrying to the floor!

Liv Morgan interrupts and demands to know why she continues to be overlooked. "What happened to that title match you promised me last week," she asks. Lynch gives it to her. In three weeks, they'll face off at King and Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia.

Becky Lynch names Alba Fyre, the longest-reigning UK Women's Champion, as the longest-reigning Women's Champion in the modern era. She also picks Fyre's partner, Isla Dawn, as well as Lyra Valkyria, the woman she lost the NXT Women's Championship to last year.

Michael Cole gets down to the question we want answered. What was she wearing at the Kentucky Derby this weekend? Becky claims that she got the hat off Etsy and thinks that she pulled it off.
Cole asks her about the Queen of the Ring Tournament and what competitors she's hoping to face on RAW now that the draft is over.

Michael Cole is in the ring now for an exclusive interview with WWE Women's World Champion Becky Lynch.

Gunther's cutting a promo backstage and states that he does not care for bangers. He's here to win the KOTR tournament and once again kill the hopes of Sheamus.

Adam Pearce meets Bronson Reed in Gorilla and tries to reprimand him for causing more chaos...even though Sami's the one who interrupted the match. Reed tells him he knows what he has to do to regain control. I smell a triple threat!

Bronson Reed and Chad Gable are in action now. Both men want the Intercontinental Championship. Gable hits an incredible German suplex on Reed and follows Reed up top to stop the Tsunami. He hits a hellacious avalanche exploder suplex. As he goes to finish the match, Sami Zayn runs in and breaks things up.

No Contest

All three men brawl until Reed is able to plant both men with uranage slams. The Colossal One stands defiantly among the broken bodies.

We see Judgment Day's Priest, Balor, and McDonagh backstage talking about Balor's loss. Priest, oddly enough, tells Balor that it's alright. It's one loss, and he's still the Prince. Balor and JD blame Braun Strowman, and Priest seems to hint that McDonagh's gonna be facing him later.

That's until Dirty Dom walks in with Carlito. Priest shuts Dom up immediately, blaming Carlito for costing him his big moment in Puerto Rico at Backlash last year. As Carlito and Dominik leave, JD hints that maybe one of them should "deal with Braun."

Backstage, Bron Breakker catches up with General Manager Adam Pearce after the latter's meeting with Awesome Truth. Breakker demands to know why he was overlooked for the King of the Ring Tournament selection. Pearce promises to explain it all if he steps into his office. What could the reason possibly be? Bron's got a legitimate gripe here.

Zoey Stark avoids another big move off the top and manages to rock Ivy Nile with the Z360 for the win.

Zoey will take on either Dakota Kai or Lyra Valkyria in the quarterfinals.

Up next is another Queen of the Ring opening round bout. Zoey Stark takes on Ivy Nile. Stark has the early lead, but Ivy turns a choke attempt into a stalling suplex. An impressive near-ten-second hold.
Zoey hangs Ivy up in the ropes and follows with a springboard dropkick! She takes Ivy up top for an attempted German suplex. Ivy fights her off and turns it into an avalanche bulldog!!

Backstage, Sheamus is interviewed ahead of his main event KOTR match with Gunther. He says that the thought of King Gunther makes him sick. He's had banger after banger with Gunther and surgery after surgery to get back here to WWE. Tonight, he finally gets revenge and gets back on track.

Ilja pulls Ricochet up to his feet, and at first, it seems like he's going to attack him. Instead, The Mad Dragon offers a handshake, and the two show each other respect. Ilja is a different breed for sure, and we love to see it.

Ilja's been busted open in this one. He stops Ricochet at the top rope and hits a high-angle top-rope superplex, rolling through for another H Bomb. That one seals the deal.

Ilja Dragunov will face Jey Uso in the quarterfinals.

Ilja shakes it off, drops Ricochet with a Razor's Edge, and hits the H Bomb! Ricochet counters the Torpedo Moscow, though, with a Recoil!!

Ricochet goes for a Death Valley Driver, but Ilja fights out of his grip. The former catches him with a boot and a rolling DVD before hitting a springboard moonsault for another near fall! This match is intense!!

Ilja rocks Ricochet with the Constantine Special and follows with a diving senton for a near fall! The Speed Champ kicks out, somehow!

Ricochet eats a springboard dropkick from Ilja after the former NXT Champ blows him a goodnight kiss. Ricochet counters a top rope, something with a hurricanrana, and hits Ilja with a series of dives to the floor! Ilja is clutching his throat and mouth. Ricochet's knee might've caught him there on the last one.
