Tom Brady was a late-round pick who was inserted into the starting lineup at the right time. With Mac Jones out of the lineup amid a series of alarming performances, his backup is turning heads, including one FOX Sports analyst. Speaking on the Herd with Colin Cowherd, show host Colin Cowherd claimed the quarterback could even be as good as Brady. Here's how he put it:

"So here's an interesting story. I don't consider it a quarterback controversy because Mac Jones hasn't done enough to warrant the outrage."

He went on to claim that the quarterback could even be as good as Tom Brady:

"He's a .500 quarterback with Belichick, but Bailey Zappe is a late-round pick, and I watched him the last couple of weeks, and I'm like, 'He's got an accurate arm. He's got good feet.' It's quite possible that he's as good as Mac Jones or as Tom Brady."

Who is Tom Brady's potential true successor?

The quarterback had a brief but intense fire in his college career. He only played one season as a quarterback for Western Kentucky, but he threw for 5,967 yards, 62 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Zappe's first brush with NFL coaches on a field in which he turned heads was during a throwing competition that took place at a 2022 Senior Bowl practice. He proved to be the most accurate thrower at sinking balls into a trash bin.

Aside from a gasp of surprise that the Patriots drafted another quarterback in April, he didn't make any noise until he took the field as a member of the Patriots, as a backup quarterback for Mac Jones.

The fourth-rounder's first action came in Week 4 when Mac Jones was injured on a play. He ended up completing 10 of 15 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions. In Week 5, he started his first game, shutting out the Detroit Lions 29-0 while throwing for one touchdown, one interception, and 188 yards. He completed 17 of 21 passes.

Most recently, he completed 24 of 34 passes for 309 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions in a 38-15 win over the Cleveland Browns. Now, with Mac Jones rounding into health, the team has a decision to make.
