#5 Jason Roy

Roy got his maiden ODI century against Pakistan

A poor show in the World Cup prompted the England management the inclusion of new talent in the ODI squad. With Alex Hales all but nailing down one of the two openers slot, the Barmy army was looking for a solid accomplice and they finally found one this year.

In came the fearless Jason Roy, a powerful stroke maker, who is arguably even more aggressive and attacking in comparison with Hales. Despite having a rough start to his England career, he has now found firm footing in England’s ODI team.

His recent century against Pakistan had all the class and grace you would expect from some of the finest ODI openers of the last two decades. His ability to time the ball is exquisite and he is quite rightly a man who has a bright future in front of him.

#4 Mitchell Santner

Mitchell Santner
Santner has provided the Black Caps with some much-needed control

Slow left arm spinners know how to carve out a career in the international arena. From Bishan Singh Bedi to Daniel Vettori, left arm orthodox always carry a X-factor, which makes it tricky for the batsman.

The case with Mitchell Santner is also the same. Despite not getting off to a dream start to his One Day International career, Santner has come on leaps and bounds with every game for the Black Caps.

His loop and accuracy is improving game-by-game and his batting style suits the lower middle order. A moderate striker of the ball who is always looking to score runs, he certainly has all the makings of an effective operator in all formats of the game.

#3 Babar Azam

Babar Azam
Babar Azam averages almost 40 in ODIs

This man from Lahore can actually become a lynchpin in Pakistan’s middle order. Babar made his debut against Zimbabwe and scored a brisk fifty. The capacity of his talent was apparent as his maturity saw him take center stage a few months later, against England.

The trust in Babar’s ability persuaded the management to move him up to open the innings. However, the decision back fired costing Pakistan the series. But his performances in the middle order showed just how mature and responsible he is, even at such a young age.

Despite the failure at the top, the 21-year-old has all but cemented his place in the side as his captain knows that he is best suited in the middle order and not as an opening batsman.

#2 Mustafizur Rahman

Mustafizur Rahman
Mustafizur has picked up 26 wickets in 9 ODI matches in 2015

One of the finest success stories of the year; Mustafizur Rahman managed a five wicket haul on his debut against India. The Bangladesh fast bowler is one of the most lethal fast bowlers at the moment and his captain’s go to man.

He announced himself on the international arena with some impressive performances against 2015 World Cup semi-finalists India, who Bangladesh beat in ODIs. The use of cutters and other variations makes him hard to handle.

With the new ball, Rahman’s ability to swing it also causes problems for the batsmen. It is a sign of just how deadly he has been that he averages just 12.3 with the ball in 9 ODIs and has picked up his 26 wickets at a stunning economy rate of 4.26.

#1 Kagiso Rabada

Rabada looks like a worthy successor to Steyn

This 20-year-old fast bowling sensation is already looking like the successor to speed demon Dale Steyn. The former U-19 World Cup winner has emerged as a crucial One Day bowler for the Proteas.

At such a young age, Rabada has all the tools of a successful fast bowler. His ability with the new ball is impressive. Not only the pace, but also the skill of swinging the ball is evident from his limited overs performances.

Moreover, Rabada is a responsible head on young shoulders. His knack of taking responsibility was one of the prime reasons behind South Africa’s ODI success in India.
