Australia defeated England by 59 runs to go 1-0 up in the first match of the five-match one-day international series at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Matthew Wade and Mitchell Marsh's partnership in the end brought Australia back in the game to set a target of 306 runs which England failed to chase.England, who were once at 194/4, were bowled out for 246 runs and Australia won the match by 59 runs to go 1-0 up in the series.Here are the best pictures from the 1st ODI:

#1 Warner-Smith partnership

Australia captain and vice-captain Steve Smith and David Warner built a solid 1st wicket partnership, and were looking to compound the wonderful start that they had provided the team, before Adil Rashid struck.

#2 Breakthrough

David Warner was looking all set for a big score, and Australia looked to take the game beyond England’s reach, when the batsman miscued a shot to the grateful Chris Woakes. England suddenly looked to have the upper hand.

#3 The rise of Rashid

Adil Rashid was the pick of the England bowlers, demolishing the Aussie top order and registering figures of 4/59 from his 10 overs. The Aussie counterattack in the last 10 overs m was when Rashid had run through his quota of overs.

#4 Yet another unlucky Watson dismissal

Shane Watsons run of horrible luck continued as he fell well short of his crease while trying to take a quick single. His partner Mathew Wade however made up for this moment, going to smash a 50-ball 71.

#5 Good start by the English

England started their reply well, opener Jason Roy blasting his way to a 64-ball 67.

#6 Collapse

England were on course to chasing down the target around the 30-over mark, but a flurry of wickets fell in the last 15 overs, condemning the English lower order to try and accomplish the impossible.

#7 The pace of Cummins

Pat Cummins looked dangerous in the ODI, as much as he had looked in the T20I encounter. He took away the last hoped the hosts might have harboured when he got Moeen Ali out for the 9th wicket, with 73 runs still to get.

#8 Victory for Australia

Steven Finn bowled by Pat Cummins to end the hosts’ innings. Australia won the match quite convincingly after having looked to be in trouble on a number of occasions in the match.
