5 Ways the Tag Team division can go forward with new champions

The WWE tag team division saw the crowning of new champions at Extreme Rules when New Day snatched the title from Tyson Kidd and Cesaro. While a portion of the WWE fan base has welcomed the title change with big wide smiles, others are yet to digest what went down. This chaotic confusion is apparently the best opening for WWE to bring some fresh approach into their division.The failure to properly use their superstars and lack of creativity is what holds down the tag team division at this moment and here is a look at some of the twisted ways in which WWE could overcome the problems and make the title more credible.

#5 Taking away the gender difference

Intergender matches are big no-no these days in WWE due to some reason. The company did have a handful of such matches back in the Attitude Era and they are pretty much a mainstay in the independent circuit as well. Recently, Lucha Underground banked in on the idea and gave their fans some great matches and WWE’s tag team division could use this freshness.

Allowing Diva teams to challenge for the tag title will be a good idea as the girls don’t have a dedicated tag title for them. Also, it is the best way in which WWE could give the divas a chance since it is the fine line between men and women that keeps the Divas down. The only thing that WWE should keep in mind is: the diva teams used for the purpose should actually know how to wrestle.

#4 The Free Bird Rule

New Day’s triumph in Extreme Rules has opened the door for WWE to bring back their free bird rule. As things stand now, Big E and Kofi Kingston are the WWE tag team champions, which is unfair to Xavier Woods considering the amount of interference he did in the match.

If the rule is indeed bought back, WWE will be able to give Woods some quality ring time and at the same time, it allows other factions to be involved as well. Natalya could get a taste of the tag titles if both the previous suggestion and this suggestion are implemented and same goes for any other stable that WWE would come up with in the future.

#3 Unmasking Los Matadores

Los Matadores is everything wrong with the tag team division. The days when WWE fans were entertained with such cartoon gimmick are long gone and WWE should understand this. There is some good heel potential hidden beneath the Los Matadores masks and WWE should take it out and invest in the tag team division.

What they could do is set up a Mask vs. mask match between Los Matadores and Lucha Dragons which would then make Matadores give up their mask. Primo and Epico could have a solid run as heel in the division afterwards instead of being a ridiculous gimmick that no one cares about.

#2 Formation of a Main event Level Team

What the Tag team division is missing at the moment is main event talent. Of course, Cesaro and Tyson Kidd are worthy of a main event spot based on their skills but they are still not big draw like some others in the roster. WWE needs to build a credible main event quality team for the tag team division and they have plenty of options as well.

First in line would be the pairing of Luke Harper and Dean Ambrose. Both superstars are not going anywhere and teaming them up could draw some crowd. Bad News Barrett – Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler – Neville, Bray Wyatt – Bo Dallas are all worthy contenders and since most of these superstars are being wasted in midcard at the moment, none of the fans will complain about seeing them in the tag title race.

#1 The veteran booking idea

Now, this idea came from the evil head of Paul Heyman. WWE would need a veteran tag team like the Dudleys or Hardys to pull this one off and signing either of the teams would be an immediate boost to the division in the first place. Once they are signed, the company should place the tag titles on them with the remaining teams fighting it out against eachother for a chance.

The team to finally dethrone the veteran champions would go over brilliantly and afterwards WWE could let the veteran team fight through the ranks for their rematch. It is a long booking strategy but if pulled off, we could see some dream matches and a lot of credibility in the tag team division.
