Who faces Seth Rollins upon his return?

A wrestling clinic is what this showdown would be

The in-ring training resumes and so does the hope of a pre-mature return of the ArchitectHe’s Baaaack! The news was short and to the point, but according to sources, former WWE World Champion Seth Rollins has resumed training and looks to be on the path toward a return to the ring. Prowrestlingsheet.com’s Ryan Satin posted on the site, the following information:Our sources say Rollins has been working in the ring without a brace at his Black and Brave Wrestling Academy in Illinois, usually multiple times a week, but he’s cautious about leg involvement and plays it safe by icing his knee after every training session.Seth was injured back in November and shortly after, underwent reconstructive knee surgery. It was projected he’d be out for 6-9 months at the time, and 4 months of that have already passed.Could Rollins pull a John Cena-like move and return from injury early? Only time will tell. The news, although tempered with slow enthusiasm, is something that should make fans excited. Hopefully, the “Architect” could be back in the ring ahead of the scheduled nine months or rehabilitation that was once thought to be the case with the damage he did to his knee. It also brings up the curious case of what to do with the former champion, who never lost the title, but had to forfeit it due to his injury.WWE had been in a tailspin of sorts even before the Rollins injury, using the performer in several spots on Raw week after week because the creative team had no choice due to other company superstars were out with injuries of their own. Now, with his return expected but no timetable adjusted for that to happen, we can only imagine how he will be used, if he will be repackaged and how soon it would be before he stakes a claim at the company strap. Oh, and who might be a solid opponent for his return? Here is a short list of WWE superstars who would be a great opponent for his return.

#1 AJ Styles

A wrestling clinic is what this showdown would be

This is the natural ascension for Styles, who is caught in a continual spiral with Chris Jericho. Styles is the fans’ favorite right now. He is the fresh face, the new kid in town and his style of wrestling is the perfect balance to Rollins in the ring. This type of feud could be the Rock/Austin of this decade.

Styles may be the Intercontinental Champion when Rollins returns and should he capture the WWE World Title again, a match with the big prize on the line might be the Match of the Year.

#2 Finn Balor

Balor vs Rollins would be the IWC’s dream come true

It’s a showstopper waiting to happen. The mystery of Balor and the charisma of Rollins – matches like these don’t happen that often anymore. Bad booking and lack of foresight have left wrestling with stale confrontations.

Not in this case.

Balor and Rollins would be electric. It would help solidify Balor as a main event talent, and if Samoa Joe somehow entered the fray and it became a Triple Threat confrontation, fans would definitely see the future with these three superstars.

#3 Kevin Owens

The undisputed futures of the WWE

If Owens continues on the path he is right now, the big guy could be the company’s best heel. Rollins could wind up being the company’s top babyface. A match like this is inevitable. Even if both wrestlers are on the same side of the fence, book this confrontation.

At some point, WWE should be booking Owens as a contender to be the company champion. Like his matches with Dean Ambrose and John Cena, a series with Rollins is what is best for business and gives fans a chance to see how good they both can be together.

#4 Roman Reigns

The original feud that got nixed

This was the proposed feud before the knee injury that led to Reigns winning the belt in the first place. It is also the reason the fans have recoiled like they have against Reigns, who became the chosen one to replace Rollins.

Fans liked the Rollins heel persona and after watching him and Dean Ambrose tear the joint up on numerous occasions and so it was only natural they would side with the then champion.

How WWE plans to package this kind of feud, given the notion Vince McMahon still wants Reigns to be the babyface leader of his company should play into Rollins’ hands once he returns. In this case, a double turn would be great for business

#5 Triple H

The mentor vs protegee would eventually happen

The boss has some explaining to do. There was an initial plan that these two would meet in 2015 after Rollins denounced his allegiance from the Authority. That did not happen and fans did not have the opportunity to see what could have been a solid feud moving forward.

If Triple H is still the WWE champion when Rollins returns (which might be a guarantee) then a repackaged Rollins would ideally want his title back. As the new face of the company he would usher in yet another title reign, hopefully building on what he started last year.
