Yesterday all the teams announced their Davis cup teams for the upcoming encounters right after the US open. The Davis Cup ties will take place from 14th to 16th september.
Spain is due to play USA at home on clay in the first semifinals of the world group, but they will miss the injured Nadal as the Spaniard announced that he is out of tennis for next two months. On the other hand, the USA team will also not have Andy Roddick or Mardy fish. But the last time they played Davis cup against Swiss team, their hero was John Isner who beat Federer on clay. It’s important to note that that tie was also on clay and that would help USA. Having said that Spain is the toughest team to beat at home with their clay court specialists like Ferrer and Almagro.
In the other semifinal, Argentina will take on Czech Republic. Argentina will miss the services of their Davis Cup hero David Nalbadian who pulled out of US open due to injury. The tie should be interesting with the Czech team having the upper hand in doubles rubber but if Delpo can win both his matches it would be difficult for the Czech team.
The World group playoffs and the zonal playoffs will also take place.
India will take on New Zealand in a round one playoff match of Asia and Oceania group. India has named a very weak side with Leander Paes opting out of the team, Somdev Devvarman out with injury and Mahesh Bhupatti and his Doubles partner Bopanna not being selected because the Olympics controversy.
