New match added to WWE "Over the Limit"

Earlier tonight on WWE Friday Night Smackdown, it was announced that current world champion Sheamus (who was successful against Daniel Bryan at Extreme Rules) would be defending his title against former 2-time WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio at the next pay-per-view event, Over the Limit.

Alberto Del Rio was transferred to the “blue brand” early last month, reportedly for a lack of main event heels on the show as well as some added Latino presence, as Smackdown! is a bigger draw with Latin audiences than Monday Night RAW. Upon arriving, he immediately targeted Sheamus on the April 6th episode of the show, announcing that he would be facing Sheamus later that night in a non-title match, with the caveat being he would be granted a shot at the World title at a later date, should he defeat Sheamus. He ended up defeating Sheamus via disqualification, earning his shot. Del Rio was then “officially” traded to Smackdown! from RAW two weeks later.

At the time, it was unknown when Del Rio would receive his title match. But that was mainly due to the fact that Sheamus was still in the midst of his feud with former champion Daniel Bryan. With that feud now over, and with Daniel Bryan now being named the number one contender to the WWE title on RAW, Alberto Del Rio is now able to make his way into the championship match he has earned. The match was announced as being official on tonight’s episode, shortly after Del Rio interfered in Sheamus’ first match with Daniel Bryan (they had a rematch later in the night, with Del Rio interfering once again, albeit unsuccessful).

The two main title matches have now been set for the next big pay-per-view event, with both matches having a lot of potential. While Punk/Bryan is pretty much guaranteed to be excellent due to their extensive history together as opponents, both on the independent circuit and in WWE, Sheamus and Del Rio do not have that kind of track record, having competed in only one one-on-one match together. However, both men are excellent workers and should be able to play off each others’ styles very nicely. Expect Sheamus to stick to a power game, while Alberto Del Rio focuses on mat wrestling and submissions, especially targeting Sheamus’ (storyline) injured shoulder. WWE reportedly has big plans for Sheamus, so expect him to pull out the win here and retain the title; or possibly lose the match on a DQ or count-out, but still retain the title in the process.
