5 historic moments we could see in WWE in 2018

What will Vince's role be in 2018?

WWE had a pretty decent year in 2017, but as we look forward to the next twelve months, it’s obvious in our eyes that things could be taken to the next level in 2018. From Vince McMahon all the way down to local enhancement talent, the ripple effect that these five potential moments could have would be huge.

Professional wrestling is on the verge of another boom period whether outsiders want to admit it or not, and World Wrestling Entertainment needs to be at the forefront of that movement. They may not make all the right decisions, but this year, they could really change the face of the industry.

Of course, a few of these may be seen as far-fetched to some fans, but in the last few years alone we’ve seen the likes of Goldberg and Ultimate Warrior be brought back into the fold when many thought that kind of thing would’ve been impossible.

With that being said, here are 5 historic moments we could see in WWE in 2018.

New Japan crossover

Will WWE and NJPW collide?
Will WWE and NJPW collide?

New Japan Pro Wrestling is the biggest promotion outside of the WWE and if you don’t believe that, then you need to re-evaluate your position as a wrestling fan. While they may not have the same kind of mainstream coverage or appeal as WWE, people certainly know about them, and their momentum is going to keep growing as the weeks and months go by.

Given the amount of former Bullet Club members flying around in addition to Chris Jericho popping up at Wrestle Kingdom, there’s certainly going to be a lot of room for growth as we move forward. Wrestling doesn’t seem to have the same strict rule set that it once did, and this kind of thing is going to be entirely possible now.

Taker walks away

WrestleMania 33 seemed to signal the end of the legendary career of The Undertaker, and yet, WWE can’t seem to let it go. With The Deadman having already been announced for the 25th anniversary of Raw in a few weeks, it’s clear to see that the final chapter in the story of The Phenom has yet to be written.

Whether it be one more match or a Hall of Fame induction, 2018 will almost certainly see Taker ride off into the sunset for the final time. That’s something that we’ve been waiting to see for as long as we can possibly remember, and while it’s going to make for hard viewing, most fans will admit that it’s time to let go.

WWE buys TNA

Could this be the year TNA finally crumbles?

TNA, also known as Impact Wrestling, has been circling the drain for what feels like an eternity. As a company, they haven’t been functioning correctly for so long now, and yet, they continue to keep plodding along week after week. The idea of WWE purchasing them has been thrown around a great deal, but now, it could be a real possibility.

It seemed to be on the cards in 2017 but the trigger wasn’t officially pulled, and now we as fans are going to be playing the waiting game. At the very least their video library will probably make it over to the WWE Network, and we may even be allowed to hear the letters ‘T-N-A’ on WWE television. Then again, that doesn’t seem to go so well when the letters are WCW.

Stadium plans

More stadium shows = more money for WWE
More stadium shows = more money for WWE

WrestleMania is the grandest stage of them all and as such, it’s been held in a stadium venue more often than not. Now while some of the venues may not have been as good as others, nobody can deny that hosting a show like Mania in a big-time location automatically makes things feel all the more important.

While this idea is running the risk of overexposing stadium shows, it’s something that you just know Vince is dying to do. Essentially, we think that there’s a chance they will announce that all of the big four pay per views will be hosted in stadiums from 2019 onwards. It would require a lot of work, but that’s not something that has ever stopped them before.

Vince steps down

Goodbye, sweet prince

Vince McMahon is the heart and soul of World Wrestling Entertainment, and even if this happens, nothing is going to change that. At the same time, everyone knows that Vince has sold 100 million dollars worth of his shares and that he’s planning on moving back into the world of American football.

He wouldn’t do that if he wasn’t planning to take a serious step back, and with Triple H being right around the corner, 2018 could be the perfect time for him to finally walk away on his own terms.

Many people have said that McMahon will work until the day he dies, and while that is probably going to be true, even Vince can see that the company will be in safe hands with Paul Levesque.
