Bray Wyatt News: WWE fighting indie talent for Sister Abigail trademark

Even with how important Sister Abigail is to Bray Wyatt, the WWE never filed the trademark for her

What's the story?

The woman that forged Bray Wyatt into the Eater of Worlds, known as Sister Abigail, is an absolutely vital part of the former WWE Champion's story. So, it's kind of shocking to hear that the company never filed for the trademark for the name.

In case you didn't know...

When Bray Wyatt arrived on the main roster, accompanied by Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, he preached the words given to him by Sister Abigail. Wyatt proclaimed in multiple promos that Abigail said he was chosen in some way.

Through all of Wyatt's mysteriously vague stories, we know very little about Abigail.

  • She raised Bray Wyatt after her father's death
  • She taught Wyatt about the "evils" of the world
  • She's dead, and Wyatt was there when she took her final breath
  • She's the reason for Wyatt's supernatural powers

There's also been talk of bringing someone in to actually play Sister Abigail for Bray Wyatt, though nothing ever came of the idea. Wyatt even portrayed her himself in his 2017 feud with Finn Balor, though we never got to see The Demon vs Sister Abigail due to Wyatt contracting an illness. After that, the storyline was basically scrapped.

Still, even though she's never been seen, Sister Abigail is a vital part of Bray Wyatt's being, and even though he denounced her after the Ultimate Deletion match against Matt Hardy earlier this year, we know that somehow the two will reconnect. Or will they?

The heart of the matter

It turns out that the WWE never actually filed a trademark for the Sister Abigail name. Even though Wyatt has been spreading her gospel since his NXT days, the company apparently never considered it, leading to an independent wrestler to take it for himself.

Back on June 5th, a wrestler by the name of Tatevik Hunanyan, known in the indie circuit as "Tatevik the Gamer" applied to trademark the name "Sister Abigail." The listing was for, "Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer also for wrestling purposes."

The WWE has been attempting to block the registration and will continue to fight it.

What's next?

Bray Wyatt was last seen at the super house show event WWE Starrcade back in November. Besides that, we haven't seen the former WWE Champion since he and Matt Hardy ended their run as a tag team back in the summer. Cryptic tweets from Wyatt have left fans confused and wondering if he'd be looking for greener pastures, though multiple reports have stated that he's not going anywhere.

Hopefully, we'll see the iconic cult leader return to WWE TV soon, possibly back under the control of Sister Abigail.
