What’s the story?

Vince McMahon fell victim to an attack by Kevin Owens on last week’s episode of SmackDown Live and many fans were questioning what caused the Chairman of the Board to bleed.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter said that McMahon did blade and covered it up before the segment, but things didn’t go exactly as planned.

In case you didn’t know...

Vince returned to television on the Sin City episode of SmackDown to address Shane McMahon’s suspension and the situation with Owens.

Vince booked a Hell in a Cell match between Owens and Shane at the upcoming pay-per-view. However, things spiralled out of control as McMahon was eventually outsmarted and assaulted by Kevin Owens.

The heart of the matter

On the September 17, 2017, edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said that Vince McMahon was believed to have bladed and covered it up with Vaseline and that the headbutt from Owens was supposed to re-open the wound.

The plan with Vince’s bleeding was for Stephanie McMahon to come to the ring with a towel and for most of the blood to be on the towel instead of his head.

What’s next?

There has been no new information about this situation since the WWE.com report saying that McMahon received no medical attention following the attack.

If this angle is similar to Randy Orton’s fight against The McMahon family in 2009, then Owens will probably defeat Shane at Hell in a Cell and possibly face Triple H down the road.

Author’s take

Vince McMahon is older than he was in the Attitude Era and taking these bumps and bruises can’t be doing his body any good. Hopefully, this is the last of the big bumps we see him take.
