As noted on Monday night, Alberto Del Rio put out a statement on Instagram about a stabbing incident that happened in San Antonio a day before he was scheduled to appear in the main event of AAA’s Heroes Immortales. He proceeded to post a graphic image of his face and arm.
Ryan Satin of the Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that he had spoken to the San Antonio PD, and they had no idea about the incident:
Just spoke with San Antonio PD - where the ADR incident allegedly happened - who said they had no stabbing incidents reported all weekend— Ryan Satin (@ryansatin) October 5, 2016
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported the same. However, now there is a third side to the story which involves his girlfriend Paige. The latest report states that Del Rio and the man went to the ground which is when the suspect started stabbing Del Rio. This was when Paige got involved in the altercation, and after the attacker had shoved Paige aside, Del Rio went to check on Paige, which is when the attacker fled in his car.
Del Rio spoke to The Record in Mexico, whom he told that Paige and he were assaulted by a “drunken homeless man” in the parking lot of a restaurant. The rest of the report is on point with the other ones, but he said that the man fled away on foot after he went to check on Paige.
This has raised more eyebrows now. PWInsider reported that the San Antonio Police Department has just one stabbing in their jurisdiction on October 2nd and Del Rio is not listed as the victim. It must be taken into account here are several smaller municipalities within the city that are not in their jurisdiction, plus the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. However, despite this, the fact that two big differences in the stories told has led to much suspicion.
One possibility is that Del Rio’s interviews about the situation in Mexico could have been misinterpreted or lost in translation. However, we will see as the situation unfolds in the coming few days. It will also be interesting to see if Paige makes any comments with regards to the situation. It seems almost inevitable at one point. Del Rio will continue to work his upcoming dates and will not cancel any of them.
