Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter broke news that WWE are interested in signing Fenix. Dragon Azteca Jr. and Pentagon Jr. for their upcoming Global Cruiserweight series.

This news comes hot in the heels of news of their interest in Luncha Underground and indie stalwart Prince Puma/Ricochet and King Cuerno (who competes for Mexican promotion Triple A, as El Hijo del Fantasma). WWE reportedly want atleast five Mexican stars to promote the Global Cruiserweight Series’ international vibe.

The only thing stopping WWE from snapping up a host of Lucha Underground talent is the complexity of the Lucha Underground contracts which state that wrestlers under contract cannot appear on TV for other promotions till season 3 airs. The main problem with that clause is that season 3 which will be taped this July, will air sometime in 2017.

Although this clause is unlikely to hold up in court, it is definitely a roadblock in WWE’s pursuit of Lucha Underground wrestlers. Apart from Lucha Underground wrestlers, WWE are also interested in bringing in LU ring announcer Melissa Santos who was present backstage at Wrestlemania 32.
