Last night in the Men's Royal Rumble Match, Nia Jax shocked the world by attacking R-Truth and taking his spot in the match, and while it was controversial, it was also a good idea and well done.
Many people were speculating on who would take Truth's spot since it seemed unlikely that he would actually enter at #30. However, no one expected Nia to be the one to take him out.
Even after she took him out fans thought that a male would come out and take his place, but Nia went into the ring and thus entered the match. Then, fans thought she would be quickly eliminated but she actually got some offense in and eliminated Mustafa Ali before taking numerous finishers and finally being eliminated.
While I can see why some people are upset and why it may seem controversial, I don't see it that way at all. First off, Nia was most likely told she would be in the Men's Royal Rumble match and that she would be taking some finishers, including a 619 and an RKO, so it's not like she was forced to take those bumps and she was okay with it.
Second, it has people talking, which is exactly what WWE wanted. Let's be honest: While Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch won their Royal Rumble matches, that isn't something that would cause a talking point between friends or coworkers.
However, with this Nia situation, it has given people something to talk about at the water cooler today. Something along the lines of "Hey man, did you see what happened with Nia Jax last night at the Rumble? She got hit with a superkick, 619, and RKO."
I can't speak for everyone, but that would make me want to go look up the highlights later as opposed to the rest of the show.
The final, and possibly the best thing that this opens up is the door to possible intergender wrestling. This isn't to say that intergender wrestling should become every week thing or something that should headline a Pay Per View, but with the right storyline and everything coming together perfectly it could be amazing.
WWE definitely has the women for it and it isn't like they can't take a shot either, so I think it can be pulled off well. As for the "realism" of it, Chyna won the Intercontinental Championship back in the day, so anything can happen.
This isn't to say Nia or another woman should be winning men's gold anytime soon, but it has happened before so there is a precedent. However, this is a different time so I wouldn't hold my breath on intergender wrestling becoming a permanent thing anytime soon.
The only complaint that I can agree with is that it should not have been done with the #30 entrant. If R-Truth was going to be attacked at #30, then someone with a legit shot at winning the Rumble should have done it, not Nia.
I believe that is what fans are upset about the most, not Nia being in the match. Now if this happened earlier in the match, say around entrant #10 or 15, I don't think people would be as upset as they are since it was the final entrant in the Rumble match.
With that said, I still believe Nia being in the Rumble match was a good idea and possibly opens up doors for the future.
