Vince McMahon didn't want Triple H to open NXT TakeOver: Dallas

Triple H in the opening segment of NXT Takeover: Brooklyn

Those, who are familiar with NXT must have noticed that Triple H opened NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn and TakeOver: London with a promo depicting the success of NXT and thanking the fans for their support. Cagesideseats.com reports that Triple H wanted to do a similar segment to open NXT TakeOver: Dallas.

That segment didn’t take place as Vince McMahon rejected the idea. Despite being projected as a ‘heel’, Triple H is always cheered during his appearances on NXT, as fans know that he is the main reason behind the success of the brand.

Though he received mild criticism for appearing in TakeOver: London just a few days after Roman Reigns destroyed him at TLC, thereby ‘no selling’ those injuries.

Vince feared that if Triple H appeared at NXT TakeOver: Dallas, then he would get cheered again while WWE was trying to portray him in a villainous role heading into WrestleMania.

He felt that the inspiring NXT promo in front of the Dallas crowd in Friday would affect the crowd’s response during the WrestleMania main event. That is, Vince’s decision was an attempt to prevent the Dallas crowd from chanting for HHH rather than Roman Reigns. We all know how that turned out, though.
