A new frenzy has grabbed the media as CM punk looks to step foot in the octagon. The media tour spearheaded by CM punk to promote his 10 September clash with Mickey Gall has picked up some pace in recent weeks and is generating all sorts of headlines.
CM Punk recently appeared for the UFC 203 media conference. Naturally, when Punk faces the media, sparks fly. Questions about the WWE, his impending lawsuit with Dr. Chris Amann, his hyped MMA debut are all a regular part of his interviews. So it was only natural that he was asked about Conor McGregor’s shenanigans.
For those who don’t know, Conor McGregor had let out the following tweet a few weeks ago which created a hue and cry in the wrestling community. He went on to call wrestlers “messed up p*ssies.”
The entire wrestling world including the likes of Roman Reigns, Sasha Banks, Matt Hardy, Rusev, Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Bubba Ray Dudley, Ric Flair and even former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar lashed out at Conor for these comments and this incident grabbed headlines all over the world.
CM Punk also confirmed that these comments did not go down well with many of the past and present wrestlers. Punk said:
"A lot of feelings were hurt, though, I can tell you that much, which I thought was a little strange, you've gotta leave the emotion out of it. These guys still don't know."
Punk made it very clear that he didn’t really care about the McGregor-WWE thing. He said that it was a hard thing to comment on the sheer intensity and number of people responding to Conor, as it was unusual. He felt like they were told to respond to him. He also said that there are always grey areas when one of the biggest names in sports is handing out insults like that towards the entire WWE roster and you are left wondering if it’s a work or not.
Punk, who is a former wrestler and the longest reigning WWE Champion of the modern era, held the gold for a staggering 434 days. He will look to translate his success in the squared circle into the Octagon when he steps in for his much-awaited debut on 10 September at UFC 203.
