It is a well-known fact that the WWE is the land of giants. Vince McMahon’s preference for muscular giants has made it hard for guys like Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio and several other fan-favorites to break through the proverbial glass ceiling and become WWE champions. Even if they do achieve the feat, their championship reign and main event spot doesn’t last long.
Austin Aries and AJ Styles are the two new guys in the WWE that have broken the proverbial glass ceiling. Dave Meltzer has recently mentioned in his newsletter that both Aries and Styles have changed WWE’s perception of talents that are being signed. It is reported that WWE was not high on signing these two talents, but the crowd support they have received ever since their debut in NXT and main roster respectively has changed WWE’s perception.
Currently, the company is looking to sign great workers who look like normal guys. Meltzer also notes that Styles was brought into WWE to work in lower card and if possible elevate to midcard. But, the fans reaction to Styles at Royal Rumble and the consecutive Live Events changed the top brass’ mentality and they gave him a main event push as soon as possible.
