The entire wrestling world was thrown in a state of shock on 20 April, 2016 when reports of the sad demise of Joanie Laurer a.k.a. Chyna surfaced. She was found dead at her home in Redondo Beach, California. She was only 46 years old.
However, recent reports state that her mother, Jan LaQue, has asked police to take a closer look at the incident. Jan LaQue had been working with a Redondo Beach detective who she claims was very cooperative.
LaQue made some serious allegations when she said that Chyna’s manager, Anthony Anzaldo, wasn’t completely honest about details of the investigation. She revealed that some of Anzaldo’s actions were suspicious and now that some time has passed, some of his moves needed to be looked into.
LaQue claimed that her daughter, Chyna seemed to have fired Anzaldo a few weeks before she died. There were some e-mails recovered in which Chyna wrote to her mom saying that her manager stole money from her, so she was taking a break from the guy.
She even added, “Please refrain from talking to Anthony at the moment.” At the time, however, Jan said that she thought her daughter was just dealing with personal demons. But she now claims that she fears something else is wrong and she is speaking up about it.
There were other details revealed by Pro Wrestling Sheet. Apparently Anzaldo had given away Joanie’s cello. He was also confrontational each time her mother had tried getting answers on who received it. He also brushed away questions about where the rest of her stuff has been placed, or how the money that had been raised and donated for her estate was being used.
Meanwhile, Anzaldo was unavailable for comments.
Chyna’s official cause of death is still pending further investigation. She had been taking medication for anxiety and insomnia. Jan told reporters that the detective said they would have to wait for the official toxicology report to come back before they can make progress with further investigative decisions.
Chyna was a prominent face in WWE programming during the Attitude Era where she was part of the D-Generation X stable with Shawn Michaels and Triple H. She often helped Triple H win matches with her trademark low blow on his opponents while the referee was not looking.
She imprinted her name on history books when she became the first female to enter the Royal Rumble in 1999. She is also the only female superstar to have held the Intercontinental Title. Demands for her induction into the Hall of Fame have escalated after her passing and her induction is inevitable after Triple H acknowledged that she was Hall of Fame worthy.
