What's the story?

John Cena may be set to miss the Raw before No Mercy as he was in Shenzen, China, for a Smackdown Live Event on Sunday. The West Newbury native also hasn't been advertised for Raw on WWE.com.

In case you didn't know....

John Cena faced Braun Strowman in an epic clash last week, which ended in a disqualification. It was the first time that Cena faced Strowman, and it came as quite a surprise that the match was given away on free television.

The match had an obvious disqualification finish as neither star could afford a loss heading into No Mercy, where Strowman will face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Title and Cena will face Roman Reigns in a grudge match.

The heart of the matter

John Cena and Roman Reigns have exchanged explosive promos prior to their match at No Mercy over the last couple of Raws. This week they might have to give it a miss as Cena had to be present in Shenzen, China, for the Smackdown Live Event.

The 16-time World Champion's role in WWE's attempt to enter the Chinese market was the obvious reason for his presence there. He faced Rusev and beat him in a singles match on Sunday.

On top of this Cena is not even advertised for the Raw in San Jose on WWE's website.

Technically, however, Cena can still make it to Raw, even though it would put him through a lot of strain. If he took the 17-hour flight to San Jose after his match with Rusev, he could still be present for Raw.

WWE did publish a preview article six days ago about Roman and Cena on this week's Raw, but that may mean nothing if Cena can't make it back in time to perform for Raw.

What's next?

All of it is very much up in the air, and since Cena is arguably the most committed company man in WWE history, don't be surprised if he turns up on Ra

Author's take

Cena not appearing on Raw would be remarkable given the heat of his feud with Roman. There are several question marks over what condition he will be in when he makes his way to San Jose, and whether he will be his usual cheery, untiring self.
