WWE News: Matt Hardy appeared at House of Hardcore in the "Broken" avatar

Matt Hardy is the reigning Raw Tag Team Champion along with his brother Jeff

What’s the story?

Since returning to WWE, Matt and Jeff haven’t been given a lot of time on the microphone. No such segment has been carried out that has sought to establish the Hardy Boyz’ character yet but Matt does keep throwing bits and pieces of his “Broken” gimmick.

However, in a recent House of Hardcore event, Matt Hardy appeared in his full-fledged “Broken” avatar for a match against Tommy Dreamer.

In case you didn’t know...

The Hardys have returned to WWE where they are the reigning Raw Tag Team Champions. Though they have signed a full-time contract with WWE, they have been permitted to complete their independent bookings.

Matt Hardy found enormous success after reinventing himself and adopting the “Broken” gimmick during his tenure with TNA Wrestling. Along with his brother Jeff, Matt left Impact Wrestling after both parties failed to agree upon the terms of a new deal.

Though Hardys are no longer part of Impact Wrestling, Anthem Sports have filed a lawsuit against the Hardys claiming that the “Broken” gimmick is their property and if Hardys wish to use it then they will have to split the pot.

Since then, the Hardys haven’t appeared in the “Broken” gimmick until now.

The heart of the matter

In a recent event House of Hardcore event, Matt Hardy appeared in his “Broken” gimmick but didn’t wrestle in a match.

Matt Hardy was supposed to face Tommy Dreamer but he got assaulted by Spirit Squad on his way to the ring. Bully Ray came out and agreed to team with Dreamer in a tag match against the Spirit Squad. Ray and Dreamer won the match after pinning Kenny Dykstra.

What’s next?

There were reports regarding WWE trying to settle the gimmick ownership issue with Anthem Sports so they could use it to boost the merchandise sales. The recent appearance by Hardy could be a huge indicator that those reports might be true and we may soon witness the “Broken” takeover on Monday Night Raw.

Author’s take

The “Broken” gimmick totally rejuvenated the Hardy’s career and it will indeed be WONDERFUL if they are able to present it to a larger audience via the platform provided by WWE. It looks like Matt Hardy hasn’t given up on the hope of reclaiming the “Broken” gimmick as he still hasn’t changed the name of his Twitter handle and still does the delete gesture whenever he interacts with the crowd.
