WWE SummerSlam: The biggest, most unpredictable night of the summer

Let’s just go ahead and state the obvious right now; this year people are actually giving a crap about Summerslam, unlike the last few rounds. We’re only a few hours away from the “grandest party of the summer” – which some call ‘WrestleMania of the summer’ – and for the first time in a long time, it actually feels like we’re about to see something big happen at the event. If I had to make a bet, I’d say Summerslam is about to finally return to prominence!

The year has been great so far for WWE, with PPVs such as Payback blowing expectations out of the water by delivering big-time. If Payback can deliver, then Summerslam needs to top that and prove why it is one of the ‘Big Four’ on WWE’s annual PPV lineup. This year’s card is stacked, and not only that, we have some insanely high-stakes matches that I’m pretty sure will have me crunching my nails throughout.

I’m usually never interested in the Kickoff matches but this time I’ll be tuning in for both Dean Ambrose and Mr.PPV himself, Rob Van Dam! That’ll be interesting. Then there’s the intergender tag match with Dolph and Kaitlyn taking on AJ and Big E, in which I’m almost certain we’ll see some development in E’s struggle to get out of the horrid Friendzone. And then there’s the heated Damien Sandow vs Cody Rhodes battle which reminds me of feuds from the mid – late 90?s. Sandow is a classic heel and Rhodes is on the cusp of breaking out as a huge babyface. If all works well, this feud will escalate both men into new heights.

Of course, the two matches that’ll have me knawing my fingernails at the edge of my seat are Cena vs Bryan and Kane vs Bray Wyatt. It’s the return of the Inferno Match, although WWE have decided to rebrand it as The Ring Of Fire instead. I guess the big difference here is that you don’t really have to set your opponent on fire in order to win in a Ring Of Fire, whereas in an Inferno Match that’s the only way to win. Something big is brewing for Kane and Wyatt, and it gets me extremely anxious with excitement everytime this story develops.

As for Cena vs Bryan, it’s no secret that I’m a massive Bryan fan and not a Cena fan in any sense of the word, so I’m going to be yelling for that title to shift hands. Of course, Bryan winning is too good to be true, so I’m also expecting some sort of big swerve to take place. Maybe Orton will cash-in, maybe Triple H will screw Bryan, or maybe something else entirely will take place.

The anticipation is seriously unbearable.

Surprisingly, the match that’ll be a casual-viewing for me will be CM Punk vs Brock Lesnar. I’m a fan of both superstars and have no beef with either walking away the winner. I just enjoy watching the feud.
