Mojang Studios recently released the Minecraft 1.20.5 Armored Paws update, which had a few major features that the community had craved for several years. Though the update was released on April 23, 2024, the developers are already working on the next incremental installment, 1.20.6, to fix a minor but problematic bug. They have already launched a release candidate for it.

Here is everything to know about the hotfix that follows the Minecraft 1.20.5 Armored Paws update.

When the Minecraft 1.20.5 Armored Paws update was released, millions of players downloaded it and entered their existing worlds through it, hoping for it to run flawlessly. Most of the features were great, including the new armadillo, wolf armor, and wolf variants. However, a handful of players were quick to notice that the trader llama, the mob that usually spawns with wandering traders, had issues.

When switching from the 1.20.4 to the 1.20.5, they noticed that trader llama's inventory was corrupted, with several items missing from it. One player reported this issue on Mojang Studios' official bug tracker website under MC-271109. The report stated that, along with items missing from slots, the slots themselves were invalid. Any item that was placed in the carpet slot was also discarded.

This bug was particularly affecting the trader llama, not any regular llama.

Mojang Studios to release Minecraft 1.20.6 as a hotfix for the trader llama bug

After this issue was recognized by Mojang Studios, they decided to fix it by releasing a completely new incremental update. They skipped the process of making snapshots and pre-release versions for 1.20.6 and directly addressed a release candidate that only had the trader llama bug fix in its patch notes.

There is a strong chance that the Swedish developers could release the incremental 1.20.6 update next week, between April 29 and May 3, if the first release candidate does not cause any more issues.

What features were added to the Minecraft 1.20.5 Armored Paws update?

As mentioned above, the three most important features added with the 1.20.5 update were the new armadillo mob, new wolf armor, and eight new wolf variants.

The armadillo was part of the 2023 Mob Vote competition. As soon as the player base learned that the mob dropped scutes that can be crafted into wolf armor, they fell in love with armadillo. It was initially planned for the 1.21 Tricky Trials update, but was preponed and got added with 1.20.5.

Players will be able to protect their favorite pets with the new wolf armor. It can be worn by tamed wolves and can protect them from various hostile mob attacks.

Additionally, Mojang Studios also introduced eight new wolf variants to Minecraft: Ashen, Black, Chestnut, Rusty, Snowy, Spotted, Striped, and Woods. These can be found in different biomes like Snowy Taiga, Grove, Savanna, Forest, Sparse Jungle, etc.
