Former WWE name files a trademark ahead of potential in-ring return after 11 years

A former WWE commentator has filed for an interesting trademark after rumors of his potential return to the ring.

The former WWE name in question is Nigel McGuinness. He recently joined the AEW and ROH broadcast teams following his surprising debut at the Supercard of Honor event on March 31, 2023.

Nigel also helped AEW President Tony Khan announce that the company would hold the second-ever All In event at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on August 27.

The upcoming show in London has got people talking about Nigel McGuinness' future. He recently filed for a trademark on his in-ring name for entertainment purposes.

The former ROH World Champion hasn't wrestled since December 2011 after testing positive for Hepatitis B during his run with TNA. But with the possibility of wrestling in front of over 60,000 fans at the biggest football stadium in the UK, perhaps Nigel might be dusting off his boots for one last match.

Nigel McGuinness was meant to join WWE in 2009

During the mid-2000s, Nigel McGuinness established himself as one of the finest wrestlers in the world, thanks to his matches in Ring of Honor. He faced several top names during his ROH stint, including current AEW star Bryan Danielson.

This led to Nigel McGuinness and Bryan being offered WWE contracts in 2009 after wrestling their final ROH matches against each other. However, things didn't go according to plan for McGuinness.

Nigel failed a pre-medical screening test after admitting he felt an old bicep injury needed surgery. Hence, he was forced to pass up the opportunity to sign with WWE. He eventually joined TNA a few weeks later.

McGuinness never wrestled for World Wrestling Entertainment due to being forced into an early retirement less than two years later. He later joined the company in December 2016 as a commentator.
