He plays as a small forward and was on the roster of the Boston Celtics' 2022 NBA Finals run. Nesmith played college basketball at Vanderbilt, where he emerged as one of the top shooters of his class. He averaged 23.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, shooting 52.2 percent from deep as a sophomore on 8.2 3-point attempts per game. He was ranked 10th in the SEC for total 3-pointers made, despite only playing 14 games due to an injury.
