Derrick Martell Rose, better known as Derrick Rose, is a professional basketball player who is currently playing for the Memphis Grizzlies. Rose is one of the most talented point guards to play in the NBA over the last few years. His journey to the league started on the playgrounds of Chicago where he fell in love with the game of basketball at an early age.

Rose went to Simeon Career Academy and led the team to back-to-back state titles in 2006 and 2007. He also earned the Mr. Basketball award in both years. He had developed into an unstoppable scorer who could also distribute the ball creatively.

After high school, he decided to play college basketball at the University of Memphis. He led the Tigers to the NCAA Championship game in 2008, averaging 14.9 points, 4.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. His athleticism and ability to take over games made him one of the most exciting players in college basketball.

Derrick Rose Team

In February 2023, the New York Knicks traded Rose to the Memphis Grizzlies. At 34 years old, he joined a Grizzlies team hoping to make a deep playoff run. The trade marked the latest stop in an NBA career that has seen him suit up for five different franchises over 15 seasons.

After being drafted first overall by the Chicago Bulls in 2008, Rose spent the first 8 years of his career in the Windy City. His most productive season came in 2010-11 when he was named NBA MVP after averaging 25.0 points and 7.7 assists per game. He earned All-Star honors 3 times as a Bull and led them to the best record in the NBA in back-to-back seasons.

In 2016, Rose was traded to the New York Knicks, beginning the journeyman period of his career. After one season with the Knicks, he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017 followed by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2018. He returned to the Pistons in 2019 before being traded back to the Knicks in 2021.

Derrick Rose Draft

The Chicago Bulls selected Rose with the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft. The Bulls hoped that the young point guard would revive the franchise and propel them back into championship contention.

Rose's uncommon blend of speed, athleticism and skill made him an instant star in the NBA. He won Rookie of the Year honors in 2009 after averaging 16.8 points and 6.3 assists per game. In the early stages, Rose embodied the qualities of a franchise player for the Bulls. His future seemed limitless then.
