Giannis Antetokounmpo is a two-time NBA MVP and is considered by many as one of the best players in the league. He currently plays as a power forward/ small forward for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Antetokounmpo was picked 15th overall in the 2013 NBA draft by the Bucks and besides being a two-time league MVP, he is also a seven-time All-Star and has been named on the All-NBA First Team on five occasions. He also won the Defensive Player of the Year in 2020 and has been named on the All-Defensive First Team four times.

In 63 games last season, Antetokounmpo averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.8 blocks per game. He shot 55.3% from the field, including 27.5% from 3-point range.

Giannis Antetokounmpo plays for the Greek national basketball team. Nicknamed the ‘Greek Freak’, it is no secret which country Antetokounmpo plays for. In 2011, he played with the senior men’s team of Filathlitikos in a Greek B Basketball League. After playing one season with them, he signed a four-year deal with Spanish club CAI Zaragoza, with a clause that gave him the liberty to declare for the NBA draft after every year.

In 2013, Antetokounmpo played for the junior men’s national team, representing Greece in the FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. He led Greece to an 8-2 record, finishing 5th overall. After this, he transferred to the men’s senior national team.

In 2014, Antetokounmpo represented Greece’s senior men’s national team for the first time, leading them to a ninth-overall finish at the 2014 FIBA World Cup. At the EuroBasket 2015, Greece went undefeated in the group stages only to lose to eventual champions Spain in the quarter-finals. Antetokounmpo established himself as Greece’s best player in this tournament, having three triple-doubles and multiple 20+ point games.

In 2017, Antetokounmpo was forced to miss the EuroBasket due to a nagging knee injury. Greece and he returned with rejuvenated fervor at the 2019 FIBA World Cup, this time with a new twist, Antetokounmpo had just won the 2019 NBA MVP and had something to prove. Unfortunately, the tournament ended in disappointment for Greece as they failed to advance past the second round.

Antetokounmpo joined the Greece national team for the EuroBasket in 2022, but ended in disappointment again, as they lost to Germany in the quarter-finals. With his work ethic and talent, one can be sure that Antetokounmpo will fight to help bring the World Cup to Greece in the coming years.
