Brian Dutcher has achieved a lot of success as head coach of the San Diego State Aztecs. The 63-year-old coach has led his team to their first-ever national championship game.

On Sunday, the Aztecs will have a chance to win it all against UConn. Considering how incredible the team has been in the NCAA Tournament, many fans are looking for more information regarding Brian Dutcher's private life, including his relationship with Jim Dutcher.

Jim Dutcher is a former head coach who's worked for three different college teams. He is related to Brian as he is his father.


Brian Dutcher is Jim Dutcher's son

Coaching runs in the Dutcher family as Jim was a coach for two decades. His coaching career began in Eastern Michigan, where he served as head coach from 1966 to 1972. He was then an assistant coach for Michigan for three years.

His final stint was with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, where he was head coach for 11 years. After going 23-6 in the 1981-82 season, Jim was named Big Ten Coach of the Year.

He coached several players who'd become NBA stars, including Kevin McHale and Mychal Thompson. However, Jim Dutcher's biggest success was reaching the Sweet Sixteen phase of the 1982 March Madness.

Like his father, Brian Dutcher was born in Alpena, Michigan. He eventually graduated from the University of Minnesota and has followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a coach at the age of 24.

Dutcher served as an associate head coach for Michigan during the Fab Five era. He also gets credit for getting Kawhi Leonard to play for San Diego State, the team that he coaches at the moment.

The 63-year-old coach became the head coach of the San Diego State Aztecs in 2017. Ever since then, the team has achieved a lot of success and has made the NCAA Tournament in all but one year.

The 2022-23 season has been incredible for the Aztecs as they now have a chance to win the title of national champion. They beat the Florida Atlantic Owls in the semifinal game on a buzzer beater, advancing to the final game of the tournament for the first time in school history.
