Kyrie Irving, popularly known as “Kai” and “Uncle Drew,” is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Dallas Mavericks. Irving was considered to be a basketball prodigy from his high school days. Starting off his basketball career at Montclair Kimberley Academy and St. Patrick High School, Irving left scouts and college programs awestruck by his ability. By the end of his high school career, he was a five-star recruit.


For college, Irving committed to Duke, and flourished under the guidance of Coach Mike Krzyzewski or “Coach K.” Despite suffering an injury that hampered his first season, Irving solidified his status as a top prospect, ready to enter the NBA. He declared for the NBA Draft in 2011, foregoing three years of college eligibility. He was drafted with the number 1 overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers.


The rest as they say is history with Irving coming to be recognized as one of the best point guards and skilled players in the league. Throughout his illustrious career, he has built up an impressive resume, winning the Rookie of the Year, being named to the All Star game eight times and securing one All Star MVP award. Above all, Irving is an NBA champion, having won the Finals against the Golden State Warriors in 2016 under the leadership of LeBron James.


Presently, Irving plays for the Dallas Mavericks and is looking to secure an NBA title for the second time alongside superstar Luka Doncic.
