He was drafted in 2023 as the 40th overall pick by the Denver Nuggets but as decided in a pre-draft trade, he was sent to the Lakers. In the rookie season, Lewis had limited opportunities, playing in 34 games off the bench for the Lakers, mostly during garbage time of the blowout games. Lakers also sent Lewis to play in the NBA G-League with the South Bay Lakers in the 2023-24 season, where he averaged 13.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists over six games and shot 51.8% from the field and 35.0% from three.
