He played high school basketball at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey, before making a name for himself at Rutgers University. In his senior season at Rutgers, Harper Jr. achieved Honorable Mention All-American honors from the Associated Press, making him the first Rutgers player to receive All-American recognition since Quincy Douby in 2005-06. Harper Jr. earned First Team All-ECAC and NABC Second Team All-District honors as well.
During Harper Jr.’s two seasons with the Raptors' G League team, the Raptors 905, he averaged 16.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game over 20 games. In the offseason of 2024, the Boston Celtics signed him to their roster.
