His professional career began in 2011 with the Cholet Basket, a professional basketball team in France. After playing for two seasons, he declared for the 2013 NBA draft and was selected by the Utah Jazz as the 27th overall pick. After nearly a decade, in 2022, he was traded to the Timberwolves. Going into the 2024 Paris Olympics, Gobert averaged 3.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game, helping France win a silver medal.
