Known for his elite 3-point shooting, Sam Hauser is a professional basketball player who plays for the Boston Celtics. Before playing in the NBA, Hauser developed his sharpshooting skills at Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) in his hometown of Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Hauser was born into a basketball family that has had a history of basketball background– his father served as an assistant coach, while his younger brother Joey was a teammate during his final two years of high school. Hauser played a key role in helping his high school SPASH to back-to-back Division 1 state titles in his junior and senior seasons, establishing himself as a Wisconsin basketball phenom. Hauser won various awards, including the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year award and Co-Mr. Basketball in the state during his high school career

Sam Hauser played three seasons of college basketball at Marquette University and one year at the University of Virginia. Over three seasons in Marquette, Hauser displayed his elite shooting and versatility, averaging 12.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

University of Virginia

Looking to further develop his game, Hauser transferred to the University of Virginia in 2019. Due to NCAA transfer rules, he was forced to redshirt the 2019-2020 season before making his Virginia debut in 2020-2021. Hauser made the most of his lone season, putting up 16.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per contest on exceptional shooting splits. Over four seasons in college, Hauser shot 43.9% from deep.

Sam Hauser NBA Career

Despite going undrafted in 2021, Sam Hauser persevered in pursuit of his NBA dreams. He signed with the Boston Celtics that August on a two-way contract. As a rookie, Hauser saw limited minutes but made an impact as a lethal catch-and-shoot threat, shooting 43.2% from long range. His shooting stroke and quick release impressed the Celtics fans. In the 2021-22 NBA season, Hauser's role expanded to 16.1 minutes per game, and he shot 41.8% from 3-point range.

Hauser played a key role en-route to Boston's historic 18th NBA title as he played all 19 of Boston's Playoff games in 2023/24 and averaged 5.4 points to go along with 2.2 rebounds and shooting 38% from behind the arc.
