The 2023 NBA draft might be possibly one of the most loaded draft classes in recent memory. While all the hype and attention is on Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson, there is another player operating under the surface, looking to make a big impact for any team that drafts him.

Brandon Miller, born on November 22, 2002, is an American basketball player at the collegiate level. He plays for the Alabama Crimson Tide of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and was a consensus five-star recruit coming out of high school. He is one of the best players in his draft class and is widely expected to be a top 3 pick in the 2023 NBA draft.

High school career

Miller attended Cane Ridge High school in Antioch, Tennessee and had a rather pedestrian freshman and sophomore years. It was in his junior year, however, that Miller progressed to become one of the best players in the nation. He averaged 23.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. Miller cemented himself as the best two-way player in his class and was also named Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year.

Miller won the Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year award again in his senior year and also played in the Jordan Brand classic and the McDonald’s All-American game. Miller was a consensus five-star recruit and was approached by multiple colleges before committing to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

College career

Miller entered college with high expectations and it might be safe to say that he did not disappoint. He won the Naismith College Player of the Year and the Julius Erving Award in his freshman year. He was named SEC freshman of the week multiple times and also scored an Alabama freshman record 41 points in a 78-76 win over South Carolina. He finished his freshman season averaging 18.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, on 43.0% shooting from the field.

Unfortunately, Miller’s stellar season would not transfer to the NCAA tournament as Miller shot just 15.8% in Alabama’s loss against San Diego State in the Sweet 16.
