The Afghanistan cricket team was among the six sides that featured in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2022 T20 tournament. The event began in the UAE on August 27 and will conclude on September 11. The competition was originally supposed to be organized in Sri Lanka. However, owing to the ongoing economic crisis and political turmoil in the country, the venue had to be shifted.

Apart from Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong also took part in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2022. The six nations were divided into two groups (A and B). Afghanistan were placed in Group B, which also included Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Group A had arch-rivals India, Pakistan, and Hong Kong.

Afghanistan were the first side to qualify for the Super 4, winning both their group matches. They thumped Sri Lanka by eight wickets before hammering Bangladesh by seven wickets.

The top two teams at the conclusion of the Super 4 will meet in the summit clash of the Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai on September 11.
