Australia registered their third consecutive win in the 2023 World Cup by trouncing the Netherlands at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, October 25.

In the process, the five-time champions sent several records tumbling, including recording the highest victory margin by runs (309) in World Cup history.

Notably, Australia have broken their own record in this regard as they beat Afghanistan by 275 runs in the 2015 World Cup fixture in Perth. The 309-run triumph has also given the five-time champions a massive run-rate boost.

Aussie captain Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first, with his side plundering 399 in their stipulated 50 overs. David Warner smashed his second consecutive century and added 132 with Steve Smith, who made a 68-ball 71. Marnus Labuschagne also played a brisk innings of 62.

However, it was Glenn Maxwell, who provided the real impetus to their innings by hitting a 40-ball hundred. The Aussies went on to hammer 131 in the final 10 overs.

After smashing 399, Australia's quicks made early inroads as the Dutch lost five wickets in 13.2 overs. Wrist-spinner Adam Zampa ran through the opposition's tail, dismissing Teja Nidamanuru, Logan van Beek, Aryan Dutt, and Paul van Meekeren.

Although Mitchell Marsh failed with the bat, he took a couple of wickets. Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc claimed one scalp each.

Zampa finished with figures of 3-0-8-4 as he became the top wicket-taker of the 2023 World Cup with 13 scalps. Maxwell also earned the Player of the Match award for his 43-ball 106, in a knock that was laced with nine fours and eight towering sixes.

Cummins and Co. will next face New Zealand on October 28 in Dharamsala. The Kiwis are coming off a four-wicket defeat against India at the same venue and will be looking to get their campaign back on track.
