Thomas Vermaelen started his professional career with Ajax and was snapped up by Arsenal in the summer transfer window of 2009. He remained unlucky with injuries throughout his Arsenal career, however, he still managed to have a decent spell with the Gunners and helped the London based club win the FA Cup 2013-2014.

The Belgium international made 110 Premier League appearances, scoring 13 goals for Arsenal before joining Barcelona in 2014. His first season at the Camp Nou was mostly packed with injuries and he managed to make just one La Liga appearance.

He was mostly used as the back-up during the 2015-2016 season and was loaned out to AS Roma for the 2016-2017 season. He failed to establish himself in Barcelona's starting line-up after coming back from the loan spell and played just 16 La Liga games in the last one and a half year.

His current contract with the Blaugrana will expire at the end of the current season and it is very unlikely that Barcelona will offer him a new contract.
