FedEx Field in Washington DC will witness the rematch of the UCL Final on Saturday as FC Barcelona take on Manchester United in the World Football Challenge.
This is Barcelona‘s first match in the US in contrast to United, who have recorded four wins in as many pre-season matches in the States. After a nonchalant demolition job of Bayern Munich in Germany, Barcelona will face a red hot Man Utd who have piled up 18 goals in the tour. Thiago Alcantra was the star in Germany and is expected to line up besides Busquets and Iniesta in midfield. With Messi and Xavi not in the squad, the likes of Afellay and Jeffren will partner David Villa in attack.
Revenge seeking Manchester United have a near complete squad to choose from with Hernandez,Valencia and Fletcher being the only absentees. David De Gea is tipped for his full debut with Sir Alex Ferguson reinstating that he will be No 1 choice for Goal Keeper, ahead of Anders Lindegaard. The defence will be formidable with Vidic and Ferdinand partnering at the centre and Da Silva twins on the flanks. Ashley Young will be the fresh injection of pace in midfield, something United lacked at Wembley.
Rooney and Berbatov are expected to start up front, with Berbatov been handed an oppournity to wield his silky touches against Barcelona albeit one month late.
The youngster are the talking point for both the teams as plenty are expected to feature in the match. The prospect of seeing Tom Cleverly, Danny Welbeck and Federico Macheda line up against Jonathan Dos Santos, Alcantra and Co has excited Sir Alex.
“I’m quite happy to be in second place at this moment in time because that’s our challenge. Our challenge will be to get to that level.” – Sir Alex on being second best to Barcelona
