Mourinho's message to De Bruyne - Follow Juan Mata's example

KRC Genk Training Session & Press Conference

Kevin De Bruyne prior to his move to Chelsea

Some of Jose Mourinho’s comments and methods may not be to everyone’s liking but who are we to question what he is doing with the record he has in the first place.

Over the course of the last three weeks, Mourinho singled out Juan Mata and it made headlines literally everywhere.

Jose called into question his work ethic without the ball and as a result indicated that if he wanted to get back into favour for a regular place in the team, he would need to “come towards” his way of thinking and how we wanted him to play. He openly stated that to just assist and score goals is not enough he wanted more.

We all seen a dramatic improvement in Juan Mata without the ball in the last three games. At times he has even filled in a right back, won an important tackle and started off another Chelsea attack!

It seems as though Mata has bought into Mourinho’s philosophy and has trained as he always does with a professional mentality and has proven himself not only in games but at Cobham too.

This leads us now onto Kevin De Bruyne.

It seems that Jose has now “called out” the Belgian youngster in the same way he did with Mata and we will now see if he reacts in the same way Mata has.

Before he left his press conference, when he was asked about De Bruyne being omitted from Chelsea’s previous two match day squads he said:

“With Kevin I didn’t like the match he played against Swindon, and I didn’t like the way he was training.”It’s pretty clear from Mourinho and again I have to re-iterate that this is someone who watches everyone on a day to day basis.

My opinion of De Bruyne is that he is a real class act with his best years ahead of him but he obviously needs to change his attitude to training if he is to break into the first team again and get involved.

If reports are to be believed he is determined to prove himself which is good news! I simply cannot see him being loaned out in January unless he fails to impress the boss.

Kevin, it’s over to you!
