“He was causing all sorts of problems” - Shaun Wright-Phillips insists Aston Villa didn’t know ‘how to deal with’ Chelsea star in 2-2 draw

Former Chelsea star Shaun Wright-Phillip recently claimed that Aston Villa didn't have a clue about how to contain Chelsea attacker Noni Madueke during the Premier League clash on Saturday.

The Blues, after going down by two goals, managed a 2-2 draw at Villa Park. Marc Cucurella's own goal (4') and a strike from Morgan Rogers (42') gave Unai Emery's side a two-goal cushion.

The Blues, however, mounted a comeback in the second-half, courtesy of goals from Madueke (62') and Conor Gallagher (81').

Wright-Phillips was particularly impressed with the way Madueke performed and claimed that Villa left-back Lucas struggled to deal with the £30 million signing. He said (via The Chelsea Chronicle):

I think in the second-half the two goals they got complemented the possession they had in the first-half. Madueke was going past his man, Lucas Digne didn't know how to deal with him, he was causing all sorts of problems."

Madueke, 22, has made 29 appearances across competitions for Mauricio Pochettino's side this season. He has scored seven goals and has provided two assists. The youngster has been a key player in the Blues' attack.

The Londoners, meanwhile, are currently ninth in the league with 48 points from 33 matches. They have won two of their last five matches, drawing two, and losing one.

Noni Madueke holds pride in Chelsea's performance against Tottenham

While Chelsea failed to get all three points against Aston Villa, Noni Madueke was proud of how his side performed during the game at Villa Park. The Villa draw comes after the Blues' devastating 5-0 loss against Chelsea.

Madueke expressed happiness at how the team responded and further said that his side were the better for the majority of the game against Villa. He said (via the Blues' website):

"Of course, the result was terrible at the Emirates, but I think for the 70 minutes of the game yesterday the team were outstanding. So we just need to brush up certain details, but it's a process and I am proud of what the boys did on Saturday."

The Blues return to action on May 2 as they take on Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge in the London derby.
