Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that a centre-forward is not the need of the hour at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues splurged nearly £450 million this summer in an expensive overhaul. However, the new-look side have struggled for consistency, languishing in a lowly tenth place in the Premier League, 17 points off leaders Liverpool after 20 games.

However, Pochettino's side have fared well in the two domestic cup competitions, reaching the EFL Cup semifinal and the FA Cup third round. The Blues have struggled for goals this season, especially in the league, sparking talks of a centre-forward in the ongoing winter transfer window.

However, Pochettino recently said (as per Chels HQ) that he hasn't asked for one from the club hierarchy:

"I never said we need a centre-forward. I said we are working like other clubs. Trying to assess and see the situations that can appear. I never said we need to add another player."

The Blues are coming off a 1-0 home win over Fulham in the league on Saturday (January 13) following a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough in midweek in the EFL Cup semifinal first leg.

Summer signing Cole Palmer scored the only goal of the game in the fourth minute of stoppage time, taking his side to eighth in the standings.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino reckons his side deserved the win over Fulham on Saturday.

Cole Palmer scored the only goal of the game as the Blues returned to winning ways following a midweek EFL Cup reverse at Middlesbrough. It was Pochettino's side's third straight league win on the trot as they displaced eighth-placed Manchester United.

"It was a different momentum during the game," said the Argentine (as per BBC). "The first half was really tough, but we played really, really well in the second half for the first 30 minutes. I think we deserved our victory. We were the better team. I am so, so pleased."

The Blues will next be in action at home to Middlesbrough on January 23, where they will seek to overturn a slender 1-0 deficit.
