Real Madrid new boy Gareth Bale was unable to make his home debut in front of the Santiago Bernabeu crowd after picking up an injury in the pre-match warm up on Sunday, BBC Sport reports.

Spanish forward Isco was called in as Bale’s replacement in the 4-1 drubbing of Getafe.

The Wales international found the back of the net on his debut game for Real Madrid in the away game against Villareal which ended in a 2-2 draw. The 24-year-old had also made his Champions League debut for Madrid in the 6-1 thrashing of Turkish club Galatasaray.

Bale experienced some discomfort in his left thigh during the pre-match training.

Soon after, Bale was hauled off the pitch as Isco was named as his replacement with Raphael Varane among the substitutes.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid director Emilio Butragueno announced that the injury wasn’t major and more would be revealed after the player takes a medical check up on Monday.

“He felt something and it was more for precaution than anything else,” said Butragueno.

Getafe scored withing four minutes of the match courtesy on midfielder Angel Lafita. Real Madrid were quick to respond after center back Pepe hit home with a close range effort.

Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo then added another goal through a penalty in the 33rd minute while Isco continued his stellar form for Madrid and scored the third goal. Ronaldo sealed victory for Madrid against Getafe with a backheel goal in injury time. Getafe defender Michel was shown a red card for a rash tackle on Jese Rodriquez.

Real Madrid currently sit third in the league after accumulating 13 points in 5 games. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid jointly sit at the top with both teams getting comfortable wins on Saturday.
