Sunderland Snap up Former Arsenal Forward

Sunderland have signed former Arsenal forward Roarie Deacon on a one-year deal.

Sunderland's latest acquisition

The 19-year-old, who scored four goals in 16 reserve appearances last season, became a free agent following his release from the Gunners at the end of last season. The London-born player can play anywhere across midfield as well as up front and progressed through Arsenal’s development ranks onto a two-year scholarship. Deacon played a pivotal role for Arsenal’s Under 19 side which reached the semi-finals of the Dallas Cup earlier this year. He netted 11 goals for the club’s under-18s before signing a professional deal last summer.

Deacon, an England under-19 international, said:

“I have already got a feel for the place and I’m really happy to have joined Sunderland.

“I’ve already played against them so I know there are some really good players here. There are a lot of young players breaking into the first team here and that’s the path I want to take. This is an exciting move for me.”

He will report for pre-season training next week and work with reserve team coach Keith Bertschin and his squad.
